Amidst the ongoing unrest between Israel and Palestine, there are many innocent people who are in danger and in need of assistance. Numerous posts on social media shed light on groups of individuals awaiting help. However, it has come to our attention that some posts contain false information.
Recently, we encountered a video accompanied by a statement claiming that a group of Israeli children have been taken hostage by Hamas and are currently being held captive in cages.
Social Media Posts
An Instagram user has posted a video showing a group of young children locked up in cages, accompanied by a caption describing the image:
“Israeli children kidnapped and kept in cages by Hamas. This is barbaric but what do you expect from savages. #StandWithIsrael #UnitedAgainstTerror #WeStandWithIsrael #TerrorismMustStop #istandwithisrael”
We also discovered that the mentioned video is being circulated on X (formerly Twitter). The video has been viewed over a hundred thousand times and has been widely shared on the platform.
Fact-Check
We conducted a source check on the video using the Reverse Image Search feature. We found an article from Snopes that verifies the authenticity of this video.
From the article above, we found a tweet from the Hebrew fact-checking website “FakeReporter.net” that explained that the video in question was published before the latest attack in Israel on October 7th.
Although the mentioned video is no longer available on TikTok, Mazloum Fiba ladi, the owner of the TikTok account residing in Gaza Strip, clarified on October 11th that the children in the video are his relatives and not children from Israel.
