The Media Literacy project is an initiative by Fact Crescendo aimed at fostering accurate knowledge and understanding of today's fast-evolving digital media landscape. This project aims to enhance the skills needed to analyse, critique, evaluate, and comprehend digital media content effectively.

Individuals who take part in this program would be better equipped to discern reliable information, identify inaccuracies, and safely navigate through various forms of online media.

This project aims to impart knowledge and understanding to interested individuals and organisations across all age groups. The content will be tailored to fit the age and context of the participants.

Previously, Fact Crescendo Thailand has delivered lectures to students, youth groups, and staff from various organisations, including:

  • Medical personnel from the Alternative Medicine Group at Suwannaphum Hospital
  • Students from grades 1-6 at Sung Yang Witthaya Prachasan School
  • Personnel from the Non-Phibal Subdistrict Administrative Organization and the citizens of the subdistrict

Workshop Content

We'll start the workshop by discussing social media usage behaviour in Thailand, which is a crucial factor influencing their thoughts and behaviours through various media, particularly digital ones. We will then explore different types of media, followed by an examination of the pros and cons of using social media.

After participants gain a basic level of understanding, we'll provide examples of various media forms, both images and videos, that can cause misunderstandings. We'll also touch upon identifying deepfake manipulations, a growing trend that can easily mislead the average social media user with a misleading narrative. Our program also educated the participants about spotting fake information created using AI technologies.

Next, we will delve further into the topic of fake news and misinformation. We'll define fake news and explore the reasons behind its creation. We'll present multiple examples of fake news that we've fact-checked in Thailand, guiding participants through the steps involved in fact-checking and debunking these falsehoods.

Additionally, we'll provide straightforward methods for conducting your own fact-checks. This will include a tutorial on using Reverse Image Search to determine the origins of images, an effective tool for combating the spread of misinformation on social media.

During the final part of the session, we will discuss various forms of social media scams and how to recognise them. The audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions about fact-checking and protecting themselves from fake news and scams.

Here are some examples of workshop atmospheres: participants discuss tips for enhancing awareness in daily life, recommend helpful applications like Whoscall, and engage in discussions about proper social media usage.
